It seems to me like government officials elected in the States should
all be forced to take a degree at best, a comprehensive, semester-long
course at least, in Information Technology (I'm not going to call it
Computer Science).
It is, however, true that during a campaign, the competency of a
candidate may be tested in many respects, but it is not tested as far
as
IT is concerned (perhaps a geek-grilling of the candidate should be in
order). Consequently, it should come as no surprise that such
representatives of the people are absolutely green when it comes to IT.
What I don't understand is this: Why do such laws not get passed
elsewhere around the world ? There is plenty of Internet in Europe
(and
I know Europe has it's own problems in the field of legislative
incompetence wrt. IT) and here in Canada, yet, somehow, such idiocy
never arises. IMHO, it is unreasonable to assume that government
representatives in countries other than the US are better educated wrt.
IT. Is it perhaps the attitude towards IT ? The concept that
copyright
law covers IT topics plenty well ? I really, honestly, /am/ curious
