Boy are there a lot of options out there.

In the past I have praised the virtues of itasoftware. Now there are many more wonderful choices out there.
Among those that I like are two that both probably are built upon the itasoftware engine.
Kayak is nice. I have seen the founders on TV and they seemed very down to earth. A good tool.

My Current fav is built ontop of kayak (at least it gives credit to kayak on some of its result pages) FareCompare does a couple of interesting things. One is the grand scan. When are the lowest priced flights? Shows you a year.
Neat.

Also does some neat drilling down into the fares. Neither Kayak or FareCompare are booking sites, you make your own choices about where to buy. Also great fun to plan that dream vacation
